The Cauldron: A Grimdark Sci-Fi Campaign

The Cauldron is our latest sci-fi tabletop campaign for games like Grimdark Future and Warhammer 40,000. The game itself is set squarely in the Warhammer 40k universe, featuring factions, aesthetics, and plot elements from the grim darkness of the far future. In particular, we’re enamored with the gritty, warband-driven approach of Inq28 and related games, combined with some of the baroque terrain concepts that you can spot in Darktide.

The campaign takes place in the Gamma Euphorion star system, which is part of the Juventius Sub-sector, which is itself part of our larger Caluphel Sector shared campaign setting.

Gamma Euphorion hosts a number of planets, and chief among them is Gamma Euphorion Prime, known for centuries as a shrine world visited by millions of faithful pilgrims each year. The upper levels of Sacrament, the primary hive city on GE-Prime, are gilded and resplendent, featuring thousands of relics, curios, reliquaries, all lit by the flickering flames of countless candles and buoyed by the sonorous swell of a distant chorus. Truly, it is heaven on earth for the Emperor’s faithful flock.

Down below, however, things are a bit different. GE-Prime is in the early stages of a Genestealer Cult invasion many years in the making. The underbelly of Hive Sacrament is wracked by heretic uprisings of all sorts. Warbands of Imperial Agents, supplemented by Astartes kill teams, have found themselves hard pressed to stem the dark tide of evil that is gnawing at the foundations of the glittering shrine world.

A similar story is playing out in the windswept expanses of Drusichtor, a mineral-rich moon orbiting GE-Prime. The Genestealer Cult invasion has progressed even further on Drusichtor, leading to worker uprisings and drawing interest from a heretical breakaway sect of the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Truly, something is rotten in the depths of Gamma Euphorion Prime. Read on to explore the battle reports from our games in The Cauldron!
